This photo is taken Evan Walker and was publish in December 1935. This photo is taken outdoors in what I would say late afternoon, in a somewhat urban location. There are 5 African American men that appear to be older. They are dressed casually but with class, each man is wearing a hat and some sort of tie and nice shoes. This picture does not clearly show the details of the mens faces, but the color. You first see the run down town store, with the men on the bench. This photo has a light tone with many details involved, it has a light and negative theme to it, it gives me the feeling of a calm afternoon. At the moment there seems to be no need to worry about anything, just enjoying the day as it goes by. I would want to know why they storekeeper is blurry, and why shoot directly at the store instead from a side view in order to get the whole street.-RM

This photo was taken by Jack Delano in May 1941 Alabama. This photo was shot outdoors, what appears to be in the middle of the day. The scenery hints that the location is in a mostley rural location. Although there are no people in this photo, a message is clearly presented by the eye catching figures in this photo. At first clance you notice the hugh cross on the building in the distance, and a sign that has writting unclear but if you look carefully you can see the words Jesus Christ on it. You can infer that this must be a type of religious building. It is a worn small worn down single room space, pushed back deep surrounded by vase land and a great rural setting. This photo is intened to be dark fom the overcasting of the trees shadows, but have a light tone. A light tone because the picture is stating that religion was still an important role of peopls lives back then. And no matter what the circumstances were, religion was going to be practiced in a type of way. And this is where it was done. I would ask the photographer why he shot the photo all they way back from the church, and if he did it purposly was he trying to show a religious theme.-RM

This photo was taken by Jack Denaro in May 1941in Greensboro Alabama. This photo was shot outdoors in what appears to be daytime in a rural location. This is supported by the worn does house setting that would most likely be in a rural location. There are clearly 4 people in the photo, that are all African American. From the size of their feet and legs you can infer that these are children that could be no older then 15. They are wearing rugged, torn up, and stained clothing with no shoes. You should notice the markings on the legs from being barfoot all day. But the most noticable feature to catch your eye is how it is only shot from the waist down. This is a photo from the home of an African American family. The family are not on the streets, but barley surving from the condition of their home. You could guess that the home is not big enough for the needed space for the amount of people. The kids are near bucket on the ground, that they possibly could of been using for a day of work. This has a serious theme to it, just by the looks of the childrens feet you can see the harships they must have, a lack of clean clothes, hygeine, and even shoes. The photographer purposly did not show the faces of the children because the theme does not need to have them including. Just a typical day of African American children of the south. I would ask the photographer if he asked the children to pose with thier legs set like that, also was he showing any types of differances between the kids?-RM

This picture was taken by Evans, Walker, in 1935. To me, it looks like a nice sunny day outside in Alabama. In this picture, there are five middle aged, African American men sitting in front of an old brick building. There are also jackets to suits on the wall behind them and a sign that says, “Sunny South big tent show Oct. 28th. ” and another sign that said, “circus”. Seeing the jackets and the signs makes me want to ask the people in the picture what they were doing. This picture on a sidewalk in Alabama is very interesting to view. Allison_e

This picture was taken by Delano, Jack and published in 1914. In the photograph, both the man and women look like they are working diligently along a road near Greensboro, Alabama. When I saw the man next to the wagon, it made me want to ask hi what he was doing with the wagon. I thought that he could be fixing it or even building it. For the setting, the trees and sunny weather around the man and woman make it look very peaceful. Allison_e

The photograph above was taken by Lange, Dorothea in 1946. The two children in the picture were described on the web site as, "Negro tenant family who barely lives on the earnings of fifty dollars a year. They pay a standing rent. There are five children working; ages from seven to fourteen. The older children cultivating, the younger children hoeing and chopping." After seeing that and looking at the picture, I realized that the tone of the photo was negative. That description makes you realize how children were forced to work from ages seven to fourteen, to help their families during this tough time, while today, you have to be 16 or older. Also, it shows that you had to work hard and do anything you could to help you and your family make it though that time. If I could ask the photographer a question, I would want to ask her how it felt to see young children working. Allison_e
